Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontics

Here at the Centre for Braces in Miami, we enjoy answering our patients’ most pressing questions. We understand that orthodontic treatments are a commitment and can raise a lot of inquiries, and we’re here to help clarify your treatment with braces. Take a look below at some common questions we’ve received, and let us know if your questions haven’t been answered. One of our team members will be more than glad to take your question.

How can I qualify for orthodontics?

The best way to discover if you qualify for these teeth correction treatments is to simply ask! Schedule a consultation today and you’ll get to sit down in a one-on-one meeting and talk about your candidacy. Dr. Stephen Grussmark will show you our in-office technology, answer your questions, and evaluate your oral health and teeth alignment. He also has some prerequisites required for candidacy.

What if I have too many alignment problems for braces?

There are rarely any cases that braces can’t fix. This treatment is designed to tackle any and all issues that patients may have, including:

  • Misaligned teeth

  • Wide gaps

  • Overlapping teeth

  • Overbite

  • Underbite

  • Crossbite

  • Open Bite

If you have been told that your case is too extreme for orthodontic treatment, consult with Dr. Grussmark right away. We believe that all patients deserve the smile they desire, and will help craft a treatment plan to tackle your problems.

What’s the difference between traditional braces and Invisalign?

Traditional braces consist of brackets and wires, whereas Invisalign aligners are constructed from plastic and are molded to the shape of the patient’s teeth. With braces, the wires are tightened at least once a month, gradually shifting the teeth into place. Invisalign aligners come in sets, and patients swap out old aligners for the next set every two weeks or so. If you would like to see for yourself what the differences are, visit us for a consultation here in Miami and we can show you examples.

What if one of my brackets/wires breaks?

Don’t panic! If a bracket slips off your tooth, or your wire becomes loose, contact us right away to schedule an emergency appointment. We’ll reattach the loose implement and send you on your way. Contact us immediately if something breaks!

How can I play sports with braces on?

This is a very popular question, especially among our teenage patients. We understand that sports are important for many of our patients, but it’s also important that you don’t ruin your orthodontic treatment. We offer custom mouthguards for athletes that can protect your braces and your teeth, especially for contact sports like football, lacrosse, hockey, and more. Ask us about scheduling a consultation to be fitted for a protective mouthguard today.

How long do I need to have my orthodontic treatment for?

This will largely depend on the condition of your teeth and the complexity of their placement. During your consultation, Dr. Stephen Grussmark will evaluate your condition, explore your treatment options, and give you an estimate on how long your treatment may take, depending on the option you pick.
